Fender Japan guitars have always been great. I currently own 2 Fender Japan Telecasters and have previously owned a Fender Japan Strat. You can’t go wrong with them….they easily match USA Fenders. I own a Fender USA Vintage series Strat and it’s no better than any Fender Japan Strat I’ve owned or played.
They really are excellent guitars.
If you like more quack, after you set the neck and bridge, you set the middle pickup . Usually lower than the other two will get you max quack.
Prakash John - first heard him live in 1972 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada with Domenic Troiano - been a fan ever since
Too much talk
Not enough typing. 😜
Well.. it depends on what you call shredding..
why mine is on the same pitch of harmonic, open and pressed 12 fret but still when when you do full bend its flat instead of getting the wholestep note?
So if I play bass i shouldn’t worry as much?
Thanks for the video. I bought the Tele… 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That's a 7.250 inch RADIUS(half the diameter of a circle)..... If you draw that circle it's a 14.50 inch circle.
I wrote to Fender for the height specs for my Squire Bullet, (pickup style HSS) and I provided the serial number. According to Fender, the bass string height above the magnets should be 7/64-8/64" (2.75mm-3.15mm), and the treble string height should be 5/64-6/64" (1.95mm-2.4mm). Squire Bullet models are made in several countries, and there may be some variances in their tolerances. I suggest that anyone wanting to adjust their string height of ANY Fender to query Fender with their serial number.
what to do if the saddle already hits the saddle and still it's not intonated? put a shim at the heel to increase string length?
Great video Lucas! I have a problem. I love my Strat MIM standard HSS, but it feels stiff and bending requires some effort. The guitar has a 9.5" radius, neck "C" shape, and 0.09 strings. I took the guitar to some luthiers and they leveled the frets, changed the tunners, pickups, bridge etc (they did the complete setup), and it feels still stiff. What can I do? I played others strats with the same radius and they felt like butter. I have other guitars, but this is my favorite. I'm thinking about to replace the neck and the body for a warmoth 9.5" radius neck and for a body with high quality woods. What do you think? could this resolve my problem?
All the morons that think you can't bend with a 7.25" radius out there need to look at Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour.
Great! What the string height at 12 fret?
There’s a pic posted in the community tab.
Hola Lucas. Soy Hugo desde Argentina. Muchas gracias por este video y por la información. Te mando un saludo muy grande.!!!!
When they are getting close to where they should be, an ⅛ of a screw turn will make a difference.
Here is a real review ! and in my opinion, all guitar testers on UA-cam should do the same thing as you, which is to talk about quality of the fretting, string height, defects (like fret buzz), and the neck in general, rather than just showing themselves playing.
How about bending on the 1st string, for example on the 15th fret? On my 9.5'' USA Pro II, anything under the recommended factory specs chokes out... and it not as nearly as low as yours. Frets are perfect, relief, everything...
Not sure. I set my fretboard dead straight. No relief. Then I set the height of the two Estrings. I don’t measure I just lower them until they buzz when bending then slowly raise them until it’s at a place I’m comfortable with. Then I set the rest of the strings with a radius gauge. First string might be a bit less forgiving. You should still get a full step bend though.
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar Thanks. How high is your 1st string at 12th fret if I may ask?
There’s a pic of it in the community tab.
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar thanks
No worries.
Years later, still helping. Thank you.
Glad to hear that! Thank you 🙏
Amigo, como lograse esa acción tan baja en el neck? Yo tengo una stratocaster con ese radio 7.25" y la acción está super alta y aun asi no puedo hacer bends porq no se escuchan, HEEEELP😢
Your frets are probably not level.
The guitar at the end is definitely a Contemporary Stratocaster. I have a black one with a rosewood fretboard. It’s from ‘86. It may well be my favorite guitar. It’s certainly the one I tend to reach for.
I think you’re right though it’s weird that the serial isn’t like the others. Hope to get a chance to dig into it at some point. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers
thanks for advice, Jesus Christ is coming back soon!
Good licks. Tasty! (That’s how to get the best sound out of a Strat;)
Thank you!🙏
Did you ever get the Big Dippers installed? I didn't see a video with the tone samples
I did. If I get some time I’ll do some sound samples. My pc dies. I’ve ordered a replacement. Hope to get back to making videos once I get it in the next week or so.
Thank you so much for this review, Lucas.
My pleasure!
I taught him everything he knows! 🤪
Ah.. The frets aren't stainless steel then. No stainless would come off on your fingers. The Chinese invariably get specs wrong - Phil McKnight did a video on this.
Yeah. I also don’t believe these are roasted maple either. I’m not so sure they get the specs wrong. I think they are intentionally misleading people and it sucks.
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar thanks for the honest review. I'm going to wait for the Harley Benton ST modern. It has all these specs and more but I think it will be honest. Having said that the release date keeps getting pushed back so maybe it's a Chinese supplier and they're having quality issues. Who knows!
Damn...just discovered your channel..... You're a damn good player! Subscribed
Thank you 🙏. Made my day with that comment. Cheers.
No. Canadians are going to abandon Fender and Gibson rediculous prices. I dont care what anyone says. You can buy a fairly decent chinese, or Indonesia guitar made at the same factories the big brands are made, throw a few hundred in uprages and have a beast of a guitar.
I have a 94/95 Telecaster Std, built by Fujigen. It's a top loader, and is fitted with Gotoh tuners and saddles as standard. The neck is amazing.
Oh I LOVE top loader Teles. So slinky! Thanks for sharing!!
Really interesting and helpful ! Thank you for sharing !
I’m glad it was helpful! Thank you very much for not only taking time to watch but also for the nice comment. Much appreciated!!
Hello maybe a dumb question, but I was just changing my pickgaurd and after putting the pickups back their all kinda loose and some are pointing towards the bottom and some towards the top. The bobbins are still on the screws so not really sure what’s going on
Hey Joey. Hmmm, not quite sure what you mean. The screw on each side of the pickup can raise or lower just that side. Is it possible you just need to adjust one of the sides?
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar hi thanks for the quick responses. I mean the pickup itself is super loose. I push my finger on one side and the other side will go up if that makes sense? Kinda like a tester totter. The only way it isn’t loose is if I fully tighten them but then they are way too high
NP. Is this a Strat? There should be springs. Did you remove them or put them in the wrong spot when putting them into the new pick guard?
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar I’ve never changed a pickgaurd and didn’t know what to expect so after I took the volume knobs off everything just kinda fell out but I don’t think that I saw any springs. Would they go between the pickup and the cover or between the cover and the pickgaurd ?
I also have these rubber bobbins that you can thread the pickup screws into wouldn’t they serve the same function as the springs or maybe I need both?
I have a candy apple red strat MIJ 2005, a serial number check found it was made at the Fujigen factory. Beautiful workmanship 60's reissue, I adore this Strat. So if you're not sure about MIJ Fenders, just do it, you will not be disappointed, and you'll own a guitar you will cherrish.
Thanks for watching the video Stewart. Love those Candy Apple strats. 60’s reissue is one I’d love to own someday. Cheers!
They are truly awesome guitars 👍🎸 I've never owned a bad one!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree with you. Great guitars. I would love to add to my collection. Cheers !
I have a Japanese Fender Strat squier series built 1996, it's a great guitar. It has a Fender logo on the Machine head and a tiny round decal that reads squier series.
That’s awesome. 🎸🤘
Great video! I love Japanese guitars 😀
Thanks for contributing yours to the video. Can’t wait to learn more about it.
Hi
These do sound great, confirmed.
Found you from the post about Japanese fenders. I love them absolutely love them
Amazing thank you. 🙏. I’m working on a pretty in depth video about the history of why we have Japanese made Fender guitars and why people like us like them so much ;). The amount of information is mind boggling. I will have 5 Japanese made guitars in the studio while filming. Two strats, one 90’s Ibanez RG, my Ibanez AZPrestige and my very first electric guitar which is a Vantagr made at the Matsumoto factory. I think it would be tough to make a complete guide to these guitars in one video so it will be sort of an overview. I hope I get the information as accurate as possible so I’m looking forward to comments form folks who have experience with them as well. Overall, my experience with guitars made in Japan has been overwhelmingly positive. I love my American made guitars too. I have two USA Strats. A 1977 and and 07 Hiway One. Hope to have the video done in a week or less. Cheers!!
Have you measured the radius? usually when guitars are refreted and have fingerboard leveled they go up in radius because luthiers usually sand more in the middle and try to avoid edges. This is how m,ost famous guitar players moved to 9.5-12 (EC, YM, EJ, ...) Chances are that's a 9-10" being that old.
I have radius gauges and I have measured the radius. This is the first refret on this guitar as there were no signs of it being done before. There’s a thick finish on the neck and they would had to sand through that. You would also probably see some signs of where they cut along the old frets as well. Good question though.
great playing , hey what is it about guitarists and musicians in general ? . I have found myself in a situation that I now have a teal stripe Bandit , a little 15 watt Blazer ( with reverb tank !) a valve king 50 and as of today an Envoy transtube . Why ? cos nothing is as much value as a Peavey....
Thanks David. Yeah these Peaveys are so much fun! My very first amp was a Peavey. Cheers!!
what frets installed on this guitar?
Jescar 47 104
Great close ups!
Thanks. Tried to just deliver information as quickly and effectively as possible. I dunno lol.
Wow, great playing!
Thank you! I appreciate your comment and that you took time to watch. Means a lot. Thanks.🙏
Thanks for the nut-binding tip - here's one of mine in return: If for some reason you don't want to get a product like the nut sauce, or if you need to fix string binding *right now* & don't want to wait until you can aquire the product, apply a bit of graphite from a regular pencil. So basically, take a sharp pencil & "draw" inside the sting slots a litte 😊
Thanks for sharing!
